Intellectual and academic production
France Formosa contributes to public debate through publications in leading journals such as Revue Conflits, the Taipei Times and Taiwan Insight. Our members regularly speak at higher education institutions and at conferences dedicated to Taiwanese geopolitics.
Our ambition is to foster quality reflection on Franco-Taiwanese issues and to promote French expertise on Taiwan.
Field diplomacy
The association has led two official missions under the auspices of Taiwan’s MOFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in 2019 and 2025, reflecting the institutional recognition of our work.
We maintain ongoing relations with:
- The Taipei Representative Office in France
- The Taiwan Office in Aix-en-Provence
- MOFA Foreign Media Services
These connections allow us to serve as a facilitator in bilateral exchanges.
Cultural mediation and events
France Formosa develops conference projects, event partnerships and initiatives aimed at raising Taiwan’s visibility in France and fostering intercultural exchanges.
We organise and participate in events that highlight the richness of Taiwanese culture for French audiences.
Taiwan in Avignon
Taiwanese companies have appeared every year at the Festival Off d’Avignon since 2007, supported by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture and the Taiwan Cultural Centre in Paris. July 2026 marked twenty years of that unbroken presence. In 2024, Taiwan was the Off’s first-ever guest country of honour.
France Formosa followed the 2026 edition, which ran from 4 to 25 July, and attended the anniversary dinner hosted on 10 July by the Taiwan Cultural Centre in Paris. This year’s line-up brought together four companies, all working in contemporary dance.
Being there feeds our analytical work: what is at stake in Avignon goes beyond the programme. Between the pressure exerted on how Taiwan may be named and the weight of the host country’s working language in what a company can actually present, the festival is a useful vantage point on Taiwanese cultural diplomacy in Europe.
Institutional cooperation
We have initiated outreach to Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture (MOC) to build lasting partnerships in the fields of cultural mediation, events and exchanges between the two countries.
This approach reflects our commitment to building solid institutional bridges between France and Taiwan.
